Block fifty two: Fight!

I think this is one of my favourite blocks in the quilt, partly because of the fussy cutting but also because of the colours. I was on my last few scraps of the William Morris Strawberry Thief by this point, so I was pretty chuffed to be able to get all of these birds cut out.

Fight. Fight is named because we still have a fight on our hands. We are in the 4th wave of feminism and yet there is still overt sexism out there, sometimes from people of our own gender! I am in the process of moving house to a new build, on the weekend I went to pick out the kitchen. The first sentence the woman talking me through the plans said to me when I met her was "Oh so it is just you buying this house, no fella?". I think she mis-phrased her question and should have said "Hello, nice to meet you, you badass feminist who has a career and can buy her own house as a result". We still need to fight....

And sew, we need to fight and sew. As much as I loved this block, it was a bit tricky to line up the triangles in the blocks so they were in the centre. I also had to do a lot of trial and error as you had to sew the triangles on a slant to the block in order to make a square.

Then sew the small squares together to create the big corner and middle squares. Finally, matching all the seams, sew all the blocks together.
