Block forty seven: Memory

Memory, I mean that is what this quilt is all about, the memory of the suffragettes. I love the colours in this block, the thistle pattern is Lewis and Irene and the green fabric is something I bought years ago (shows keeping a constant fabric stash is important).

We need to remember women's contribution to the world and to history. Whilst making this quilt I have listened to 7 books about feminism and 8 biographies/autobiographies about women. In one of those books I learnt that Wikipedia has 1.5 million biographies in English. Only 17 percent are about women. Not only that but out of the people who contribute to Wikipedia only 13.6% are women. As women, we need to take ownership of Wikipedia and contribute the information we want to see and add women who have been successful in their fields to show. So, please, if you can take time to add inspirational women to Wikipedia, they deserve it.

This block states that each triangle needs to be cut from a 4.83cm square, but in truth I cut them from 5cm squares and just moved the ruler slightly to compensate.
