Block one is in honour of Emily Wilding Davidson, the suffragette who tried to pin a 'Votes for Women' banner on the king's horse at the Epson Races. Sadly she was hit by the horse and died a few days later as a result of her injuries. It seems like a fitting block to start with, every time I go to vote I not only remember Emily, who died for the cause, but I also remember the suffragettes who suffered bodily harm as a result of police brutality or through force feeding. Through all that pain and hurt they rose another day to fight for the cause.
This is a simple block. The middle block was 'fussy cut' to make a 11x11cm square (this allowed 0.5 cm for seam allowance on each side). The triangles were cut from a 6.5cm square and sewn together in strips. All of my patterns use a 0.5cm seam allowance and should create a 20cm square once finished.
